Living hall

Also called living-hall

In the late Victorian and Edwardian house, a large hall used as a family sitting room, with a fireplace, often an inglenook, from which the other rooms open. Baillie Scott would have its stair enclosed or kept out of it, so that it was no longer a passage; others set the stair to one side of it.
