Ridge rib

Also called ridge ribs

A rib running along the crown of a vault, longitudinally or transversely, linking the bosses.

See also: Tierceron

Rules that use the word

Tiercerons: more ribs from each springer. Add to the diagonal ribs further ribs (tiercerons) that rise from the same springers to points on the ridge rib, so that each springer sends up a sheaf of ribs and the vault reads as a palm.

Where it appears in the book

In the chapters Vaults.
