Xieshan
Also called xie shan, jiuji, hip-and-gable, hip and gable, paljak
The hip-and-gable roof: a hipped lower part and a gabled upper part, with nine ridges in all (hence the Song name jiuji, “nine ridges”). Second in rank after the wudian; Japanese irimoya, Korean paljak.
Rules that use the word
The roof declares the rank. Give the hipped roof (wudian) to the highest halls, the hip-and-gable (xieshan) to the next, and the gabled roofs, overhanging (xuanshan) and flush (yingshan), to lesser buildings and houses; double the eaves for the very highest.
Where it appears in the book
