Arthur Stratton · Series VII. Internal Corridors
Plate XLVII. Corridors with Square Domed Compartments
Plate XLVII. — This introduces several designs of richer type in which the compartments are square and are covered with saucer domes on pendentives. The plan No. I applies to these arrangements whether the pendentives are carried on semi-circular, segmental or elliptical arches. A corridor three bays in length is shown in Nos. V and VI in which interest is given by a combination of intersecting vaults on either side of a central compartment which is covered with a saucer dome. Various combinations are permissible on the lines indicated.
Public-domain text (1925), transcribed from the archive.org OCR of the first edition and cleaned for reading: line-end hyphens rejoined, running heads, page numbers and the captions of the text figures removed, and obvious misreadings corrected. Stratton’s hundred plates are not reproduced, nor their engraved captions or the index to the illustrations; each Series is divided at his commentary on each plate, and the chapter titles follow the plate headings. The live figures are this book’s own.
