M. H. Baillie Scott · Houses Illustrated

St. Mary’s

This is a somewhat special type of plan in which there are Jess than the normal number of bedrooms and a drawing-room on the upper floor. The staircase, as the approach to the drawing-room, is therefore somewhat wider than usual and is supplemented by a back stair for the servants. The hall and dining-room are divided by a partition with a wide doorway, and in the study a little Eastern oratory is a special feature.

Public-domain text (1906). Transcribed from the OCR of the Internet Archive’s scan of the Getty Research Institute’s copy (gri_33125001067863) and cleaned for reading: line-end hyphens rejoined, running heads, page numbers and captions removed, and misreadings corrected, among them the stray letters a crease in the scan scatters through the words of some pages. Baillie Scott’s colour plates, drawings, plans and photographs, and the lists of them, are not reproduced.
